Multiplier Event in Belgium (E6)

Date: 21-11-2022
Location: Kortrijk, Belgium

Description
On 22/11/2022, we held our Multiplier Event in Kortrijk. At the community center in Bellegem. We forwarded the invitation in advance to our associated partners, organisations working with people with dementia, adult education schools and city council. The aim is to introduce and make the MYH4D project known to partners in education and care.

We invited several speakers:
Gudrun Callewaert, founder of 'Het Ventiel'. A buddy organisation for people with young onset dementia. Het Ventiel is an associate partner of the MYH4D project. Gudrun came from her own situation (her husband has been diagnosed with young onset dementia) to explain why knowledge and competences about dementia are so important. Knowledge about dementia (and especially young dementia) is still imperfectly known. For her, it was quite a quest to find knowledge and skills to deal with a person with dementia. She also mentioned the benefits of an online course. That way, you can find information at your own pace, whenever you want and in complete privacy. The MYH4D project gives people with dementia and their carers tools to find information.
Jan Goddaer came to explain more about what it is like to work together in a European context. Through Covid, we experienced that online collaboration is possible but not obvious. After describing the partners, he outlined the opportunities and challenges of a European collaboration.
Chantal Vanneste is a dementia reference person at a friendly Residential Care Centre. She followed the full MYH4D programme via focus groups. Chantal came to explain and demonstrate the Mooc 'Be Connected'. Besides the content, she outlined the possibilities of using the Mooc as course material to be used in an educational context.
The break, with coffee and refreshments was seen as a networking break between the various attendees.
Johan De Schepper took charge of the community of practice presentation. After explaining the meaning and value of a Community of Practice, it zoomed in on the importance of sharing information about dementia and coping with people with dementia. The platform was also presented interactively and involved participants in its operation.
Jurn Verschraegen, director of Expertise Centre Flanders (associate partner) came to explain more about the recommendations. Jurn focused mainly on the Flemish dementia plan. In addition to the good practices already given that afternoon, he gave some more good examples from Europe.
After the various presentations, there was a round of questions and people were asked to fill in an evaluation form

We had 46 participants and 3 participants from our own organisation. Most are from healthcare facilities, from educational institutions and some caregivers.

The afternoon was well received by the various participants. Through this afternoon, they are aware of the full programme of MYH4D (Mooc 'Be Connected', Community of Practice, Recommendations for policy makers and adult educators.
At the end, we asked to fill in an evaluation. This consisted of:
- Mooc ‘Be Connected’: Clarity of the content, scientific reliability, didactal appropriateness, consistency, usability, innovativeness, transferability
- Community of Practice : clarity, consistency, usability, innovativeness, transferability
- Recommendations: clarity, scientific reliability, consistency, usability, innovativeness, transferability
- Which of the above sources are most useful to you? Why?
- What are the most innovative aspects and strengths of the MYH4D project?
- Remarks

In summary, we can say that:
- The Mooc: the mooc was well received and is a step forward for the vast majority. It provides a lot of reliable information, it is easy to use to give lectures, it is an inspiration for colleagues, ...
- For the CoP, opinions were divided. It is a good medium for sharing information. A few were concerned that over time the quality of the material would go down. For most, it seemed to be mainly a forward-looking platform. The part that people with dementia can participate is also welcomed.
- The recommendations were explained by Jurn Verschraegen. He is the director of the expertise centre Dementia Flanders and is an inspired speaker with a lot of knowledge. For most, this was interesting but sometimes not very practical in their work situation.
- Remarks : ‘great to learn about examples from other countries’, ‘user-friendly, also towards people with dementia’, ‘you can follow it at your own pace’, ‘you can follow it discreetly, if you are a carer you can increase your knowledge without having to rely on others.’, ‘rich in didactic material’, ‘accessibility is an advantage’, ‘Keep login options as easy as possible’

World Alzheimer's Day

Date: 25-10-2021
Location: Pinerolo (IT)

Description
In the evening of September 21th, 2021 to celebrate the World Alzheimer's Day an important Dissemination event took place in the Conference room of Asl To3 in Pinerolo. The event was organised together with the Cosso Foundation and Diaconia Valdese in order to promote awareness about dementia and increase community skills for people living with dementia.

It was a great opportunity for sharing and opening to the territory, dedicated to family members, citizens, health and social workers and all those who are in daily contact with people with dementia.
Memory screening for community was followed by lectures of Franca Dall'Occo, General Manager of AslTo3, Paola Fasano, Head of the Pinerolo District of the Health Authority, Alessandro Bonansea, Head of the Complex Structure of Psychology AslTo3, Professor Leonardo Lo Piano, Head of the Complex Structure of Neurology 2 U. Biennale Democracy 2021

Date: 10-10-2021
Location: Turin, Italy

Description
Biennale Democracy 2021 hosted MYH4D in Turin, October 10th. “One planet: many worlds” is the title of the seventh edition of Biennale and MYH4D represented dementia as one of them. A world not so unusual, if we think that the average lengthening of life expectancy is a phenomenon that occurs in every country on the planet and is linked to nutrition, environmental conditions, technological innovation and medical developments. We know that 10% of over 65 years old have got dementia, even if dementia is not a normal part of ageing.
But even more, Biennale Democracy wanted to include living with dementia, because it arise new individual and collective awareness and responsibility. To engage it, ASL TO3 organized a narrative workshop led by Dr. Portis, a cultural anthropologist, to help participants “put themselves in the shoes of people living with dementia”, writing about their own experiences of emotional and cognitive intermittence and inconsistency: memory loss, temporal and spatial disorientation. A digital Tazebao was realised during narrative workshops directed by Dr Lucia Portis between June and October 2021 in collaboration with University of the Third Age UNITRE Grugliasco, Gruppo ARCO and CPIA5. MYH4D Digital Tazebao is now available as tangible intellectual output to fill the gap with people living with dementia, but it is also a work in progress to move forward for more inclusive communities.
The last edition of the laboratories was held in May and June 2022, with the collaboration of Diaconia Valdese
and with the sponsorship of the "Torre Pellice" Municipality.
To review the materials with the collection of writings from the narrative workshops, you can download the digital Tazebao "Demenza, un mondo possibile nella nostra mente".
