Description of the organization
In 1994 some Specialists and Operators from the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, the AUSL and the Company
Ospedaliera, together with some family members and volunteers begin to confront and reflect with the goal of
create an association.
This working group is recognized as an interlocutor and convened in 1996 by the Department
Regional Social Policy for the launch of a path to define the "Senile Dementia Project".
On March 14, 1997 the Italian Alzheimer's Disease Association of Reggio Emilia was born as a point of
reference and support to the needs of people with dementia and their families; volunteers join it,
family members, operators and professionals in the dementia sector.
Awareness raising, information, promotion of services, research and political and social studies on the "Alzheimer's Planet" are and will remain the main themes of AIMA's commitment.
AIMA's mission is to give a voice to people with dementia and their families, to improve the quality of
their lives and promote their well-being.
How the organisation will contribute to the dissemination and exploitation of the project results
The association pays a lot of attention to different forms and communication strategies in order to produce one increasing knowledge, information and awareness of dementia.
We keep the website www.aimareggioemilia.it constantly updated with articles on events
and activities of the association, but also with new information pages to respond to the most frequent ones
questions about dementia and the services offered by the area, so that all those who are faced with
this disease may know who to turn to and what help to find in the province of Reggio Emilia.
We also update our social pages on a weekly basis, in particular:
- Facebook www.facebook.com/aimareggioemilia (over 1,640 “likes” and about 1,760 “followers”);
- Instagram www.instagram.com/aimareggioemilia/ (over 1,000 contacts).
Every month we send all our active e-mail contacts (about 2,000) a newsletter about our activities.
The Press Office sends a press release to the local media (television, radio, newspapers
and websites) on the occasion of fundraising campaigns and awareness-raising initiatives, to give visibility to
projects or particularly significant contributions.
It is important to take care of the awareness and information aspect for a better understanding of
disease and the aid network for families, we periodically carry out campaigns and initiatives for
awareness raising on the whole Province (eg, theatrical events, concerts, information stands, reviews
cinematographic, etc.).
